SPONGEMAN to PRESIDENT - 45 Years of Ups & Downs with Boston United

An autobiography of a man affectionately known in the football world as Mister Boston United.

John Blackwell started his Boston United career as Spongeman/Trainer in 1972 after being asked to join the club by the manager at the time Jim Smith, who went on to become one of the most famous managers in English Football during the 70's, 80's and 90's, and remains a life long friend ....as do many!

John was appointed full time Club Secretary in 1976 and continued in this role until retirement in 2016, from there he went on to become Club President, continuing his involvement with The Pilgrims.

John has signed some of the finest non-league semi-professional footballers and also some former superstars during the reign of a certain manager!

John has been threatening to write this book for a while and with the help of long time friend and former journalist George Wheatman have recorded some stories  many non-league football fans and ex-players will love to read.
